B&O Museum Springfest: Cowboys & Crowns {March 21 – April 2}

Springfest: Cowboys & Crowns is happening at the B&O Museum from Monday March 21st -Saturday April 2nd (closed Easter Sunday).  Check out the schedule below to see what exciting events they have planned!

Monday, March 21

• 11:00 am – Choo Choo Blue Story Time! Choo Choo Blue makes an appearance at Choo Choo Blue Kids Zone for a special story time featuring the classic railroad story, Every Cowgirl Needs a Horse by Rebecca Janni. Nellie Sue is a girl who can add a western flair to anything! Whether she’s cleaning up the animal sty (picking up her stuffed animals) or rounding up cattle (getting the neighborhood kids together for her birthday party), she does it like a true cowgirl. All she really is missing is a horse. However she just might get one if her imagination is strong enough. Make your own steam train! Following story time, families’ practice working and playing with others, while learning how to turn everyday craft supplies into an amazing steam train! Adult supervision required.

• 1:00 pm – LEGOs & LEGO Man LEGO Man makes an appearance in the LEGO Zone of Choo Choo Blue Kids Zone. Children under age 5 learn play and building at the LEGO Engineers DUPLO Railroad. Ages 6 and up learn serious fun with LEGO Bricks at the B&O’s new Hands-On S.T.E.A.M. Station. Designed by LEGO Education & B&O Educators, this age group can express their creativity and learn some science, technology, engineering, and math concepts.

Tuesday, March 22

• 11:00 am – Choo Choo Blue Story Time! Choo Choo Blue makes an appearance at Choo Choo Blue Kids Zone for a special story time featuring the book, Cowboy Small by Lois Lenski. This simple and sweet story tells the tale of Cowboy Small, a hardworking and kind cowboy who takes good care of his horse, Cactus. In return, Cactus helps Cowboy Small get work done on the range. Together they round up cattle for branding and live the good life on the range. Filter Flowers! Following story time, make Filter Flowers! Learn all about color and desert flowers while designing your own desert flower.

• 1:00 pm – LEGOs & LEGO Man LEGO Man makes an appearance in the LEGO Zone of Choo Choo Blue Kids Zone. Children under age 5 learn play and building at the LEGO Engineers DUPLO Railroad. Ages 6 and up learn serious fun with LEGO Bricks at the B&O’s new Hands-On S.T.E.A.M. Station. Wednesday, March 23

• 11:00 am – Choo Choo Blue Story Time! Choo Choo Blue makes an appearance at Choo Choo Blue Kids Zone for a special story time featuring the classic railroad story, Cowboy Camp by Tammi Saver. This rootin’ tootin’ tale of  an unlikely cowboy tells the story of Avery, a wacky cowboy, and his time at cowboy camp. Avery loves the idea of being a cowboy, but when he suddenly is not feeling up to the challenge, his time at cowboy camp takes a turn. When a bully threatens all the campers, Avery will have to decide if he has what it takes to be a cowboy hero and save the day. Make your own Cactus Circles! How high can you make your cactus garden?

• 10:00 am – WILD WEST DAY Put on your cowboy hats and boots and join us at the B&O Ranch for a wild wonderful time! There’s bulls that need ropin’, bandits that need catchin’, ponies that need racin’, and much more. So saddle up, cowboys and cowgirls, and meet us at the B&O for a day of fun on the western frontier! Join us all day for games, crafts and more!

Choo Choo Blue makes an appearance at Choo Choo Blue Kids Zone for a special story time featuring the story Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle and Jill McFlmurry. Take a drive down a country road with Blue, a little blue pick-up truck with lots of determination.

• 11:30 am – WILD WEST Train Ride All aboard for the B&O Train Ride! Little cowboys and cowgirls will board the decorated train car to learn about inventors of the railroad and other transportation technology. With paid admission the train ride is an additional $3 for adults, $2 for children and FREE for B&O Members. No advance reservations required. To become a B&O Member click here

• 1:00 pm – LEGOs & LEGO Man LEGO Man makes an appearance in the LEGO Zone of Choo Choo Blue Kids Zone. Children under age 5 learn play and building at the LEGO Engineers DUPLO Railroad. • 10:00 am – The Easter Bunny arrives in the B&O Roundhouse for a fun-filled day of train rides, photos & special contests!

• 11:30 am & 2:00 pm – All aboard the Mile One Express for a round-trip Train Ride with the Easter Bunny! Hop on board to receive a special treat! • 12:30 pm – Gather in the Roundhouse for the GOLDEN TICKET BALLOON DROP for a chance to win 4 tickets to Day Out With Thomas! One lucky winner will receive a golden ticket to redeem for (4) four Day Out With  Thomas tickets to the B&O Railroad Museum’s event, April 22-24 & April 29-May 1.

• 11:00 am – Olaf Story Time! Olaf and a mystery guest make an appearance at Choo Choo Blue Kids Zone for a special story time featuring the story, A Gold Star for Zog by Julia Donaldson. Zog is the most eager student in class, but he’s also accident prone. With each test (and every bump, bruise or scrape), his dream of earning a gold star seems further away than ever. But with a little help from a princess, who wants to be a doctor not a princess, Zog may finally win in the classroom. Make your own Hugging Olaf! After story time, join us in making your very own hugging Olaf.

Princess Amanita is a quirky princess with a garden full of dangerous plants and that suits her just fine. She loves danger and excitement until she gets lost in the woods. A strange bouquet of noses (nope, not roses) leads her to safety and yes, a prince. Under the Sea – Following story time, make your own ocean in a bottle! Learn all about energy in motion as you create an ocean in a bottle.

Olaf and a mystery guest make an appearance at Choo Choo Blue Kids Zone for a special story time featuring the book, Not All Princesses Dress in Pink by Jane Yolen and Heidi Stemple. In this fun and fluid rhyming story, kids learn that not all princesses wear pink and love glitter. “Some princesses wear their jewels while using power tools” one page tells us.  The Colors of the Wind – Join us after story time to learn all about air flow while making colorful wind socks.

• 1:00 pm – LEGOs & LEGO Man LEGO Man makes an appearance in the LEGO Zone of Choo Choo Blue Kids Zone. Children under age 5 learn play and building at the LEGO Engineers DUPLO Railroad. Iron your best princess dress or break out your space suit as you journey to the royal kingdoms to test your rocket building skills in Provence with Belle and her dad, Maurice, the inventor. Learn how to make snow with Elsa and Anna in Arrendale. Race some frogs with Tiana in Maldonia. You can even mine for diamonds with Snow White and make mice friends with Cinderella in her castle. Join us all day for games, crafts and more:

• 10:30 am & 1pm – Olaf Story Time! Olaf and a mystery guest make an appearance at Choo Choo Blue Kids Zone for a special story time featuring the story, Rosie Revere, Engineer by Andrea Beauty. Rosie may seem reserved during the day, but at night she’s a brilliant inventor of wonderful creations. She dreams of becoming a great engineer. When her great-great-aunt Rose (Rosie the Riveter) comes for a visit and mentions her one unfinished goal – to fly- Rosie decides to build a contraption to make her aunt’s dreams come true.

• 11:30 am Princess Train Ride All aboard the B&O Mile One Express with Olaf and some of your favorite princesses for a round-trip train ride fit for any king or queen. Little passengers board the decorated royal train car and have some fun! Come dressed as your favorite astronaut, railroad engineer, or prince or princess for an out-of-this-world experience. This is a story about a little girl who dreams she is a princess – not your ordinary princess mind you. Along with wearing gowns and attending balls she fights dragons and tames trolls. But one morning she wakes up and begins to think maybe her royal adventures aren’t so imaginary after all. Make your own Princess Cut Outs! After story time, join us in mixing up your own batch of play dough and sculpt princess cut outs into a work of art!
