Update: Walmart recently annouced that this program will be ending early on Sept. 21st due to the huge success and them reaching capacity. They estimated that they will have collected over 1 million car seats to be recycled! How amazing is that?
For the first time ever, Walmart and TerraCycle are partnering together on a recycling program where you get a $30 Walmart Gift Card for bringing in your old car seat to be recycled. According to a press release by Walmart, the event will take place September 16-
30 21 in conjunction with National Baby Safety Month. Please note that booster seats are not accepted as part of this recycling offer.
TerraCycle CEO Tom Szaky said “We are proud to work with this forward-thinking company to offer families from coast-to-coast a way to give their car seat, the item that has kept their little ones safe, a second-life. Through this event, we expect to divert the plastic equivalent of approximately 35 million water bottles from landfills.”
