On June 22nd, 2016 Havre de Grace will hold a special installation of the second Little Free Library of Harford County.

What exactly is a Little Free Library?

The Little Free Library nonprofit organization was established in 2012 with the official motto of “Take a Book, Return a Book.” The focus is on providing access to books through the expansion of Little Free Libraries around the world. In 2015 the Little Free Library was awarded the Library of Congress Literacy Award for its effective implementation of best practices in literacy and reading promotion.  In 2012 Little Free Library was declared “A global sensation,” by The Associated Press.

There are over 40,000 Little Free Library book exchanges around the world and on June 17, 2016, the City of Havre de Grace became one of these, and the first registered in Harford County, when a Little Free Library was installed at 121 N. Union Avenue, Havre de Grace, in front of  the Opera House at a bus stop bench.

A second Little Free Library for the City of Havre de Grace has been built and will soon be installed in Tydings Memorial Park, as well, during a special installation.
